花蓮縣衛生局提醒，災後如有淹水家戶及周邊水溝，應做好災後防疫工作。
花蓮縣衛生局長林運金呼籲民眾，災後清理家園時應穿著雨鞋或防水長靴、配戴防水手套及口罩等個人防護措施，工作完畢或裝備卸除後，仍應以清水及肥皂洗手，做好手部及腳部防護，避免鉤端螺旋體及類鼻疽感染。
同時注意清除室內外所有積水容器，防止病媒蚊孳生，降低登革熱等蟲媒傳染病發生的風險。
林運金提醒，多洗手，維持手部清潔衛生；飲用水要徹底煮沸，預防腸道傳染病。如有出現發燒、頭痛、肌肉痛、腹痛、腹瀉、黃疸、倦怠或其他身體不適症狀應儘速就醫，就醫時務必告知醫師居住地區及污水淤泥暴露史，以利診斷。
對於泡水廚房用具及餐具要煮沸消毒後才能使用，不能煮沸者，可使用市售含氯漂白水40毫升加清水10公升稀釋後（濃度約0.02%），浸泡30分鐘消毒廚房用具及餐具。
另外，將市售含氯漂白水稀釋100倍（濃度約0.05%），可用來擦拭居家環境。廁所可用漂白水或消毒劑，依容器瓶上標示的稀釋方法稀釋後噴灑消毒；垃圾清理後地面，也可以同樣方法消毒。
